Easter/Passover Lily poisonings in cats!
With the upcoming Spring celebrations of Easter and Passover the possibility of cats being accidently poisoned by lily plant will increase. This can be a fatal poisoning even if a cat does not eat the lily but merely rubs it and gets the pollen on it. Prompt emergency treatment is needed to help increase the odds of your cat surviving, especially if treated within 18 hours of the inital exposure. If you know your cat has been exposed or you suspect it due to unexplained lethargy, vomiting please take it to your regular veterinarian or to a 24 hour veterinary hospital. Bring in the suspected plant for identification as well. The treatment requires intestive decontamination with activated charcoal with a cathartic, IV fluids, anti-nausea drugs, blood tests for prognosis and progress for at least 2 days round the clock. See www.noliliesforcats.com for further information and please, “spread the word.”
